Based on a thorough assessment of the extensive data set generated by our sampling program, our study report concluded that: "Generally, the air quality in the Transcona area was found to be good with air quality guidelines rarely being exceeded. Air pollutant levels were generally very low, typically only a small fraction of the air quality guidelines and similar to the air quality found in other areas of Winnipeg." Our data do not support the claim that air quality is worse in Transcona nor do they support the contention that measurements made at Transcona locations are markedly different from measurements made in other areas of Winnipeg. The article regarding the new abortion clinic opening somewhere in Winnipeg contained some interesting information. The article stated, "Unlike elec...

The ProChoice Action Network, which claims to be B.C.'s largest "pro-choice" organization, features pro-abortion activist [Joyce Arthur], who argues that women have the right to have an abortion for any reason whatsoever, including fitting into a prom dress or fetal sex selection. Further, the abortion should be immediately available, at any trimester at public expense. As I see it, radical "pro-choicers" don't offer any choice at all, other than abortion. "Every child a wanted child" is their sacred and oft repeated creed. In an article in the Globe and Mail in 2005, [Henry Morgentaler] spelled it out: Either have an abortion or risk raising an unwanted child to be a violent criminal. Also, Canada does not have a comprehensive public policy on adoption, but adoption offers another cho...

Although the two aforementioned dimensions have been recovered widely in previous research, the relations between these two dimensions have tended to vary across samples, both within and between cultures (e.g., [Duckitt], 2001; [Duriez] et al., 2005). In some samples, the two dimensions are nearly independent, but in other samples the relations are much stronger. In an attempt to understand these variations, Duckitt and colleagues (Duckitt, 2001; Duckitt et al., 2002) and Duriez et al. (2005) have hypothesised that the strength of the relation between the two dimensions depends on the national political context and on the characteristics of the respondents. With regard to between-culture differences, Duckitt and colleagues suggested that the relations between the two dimensions are stro...

It's not out there, I would say that," she said. "It might not be jumping out of the phone book for people who don't have the education or experience with the system. It's a problem in the isolated communities. [Amanda Le Rougetel] said it's striking that abortion is still a difficult topic to discuss in 2008. Women's rights crusaders haven't "come quite as far as we'd like to think we have." We have lots of people call our crisis line who've had abortions and then are now trying to get pregnant, and are having a really hard time, or can't get pregnant," said [Eliza], another crisis pregnancy centre counsellor. "So that's a big thing to think about, too.

The picture on illegal abortions is cloudy, but less encouraging. Even estimating their number is difficult: The best sources are anonymous surveys and medical data from cases where illegal abortions have led to complications. The report reckons that the annual number of illegal abortions remained at around 20 million over the period, almost all in developing countries. Fully 86 per cent of the women of reproductive age in the poor world outside China and India (which have liberal abortion laws) live in countries that restrict it tightly. None of this is going to eliminate illegal abortion in the foreseeable future. The final prescription is the importance of bolstering health care systems' ability to deal with the after-effects of unsafe abortions. Even the strongest proponents of abor...
