The impact of the Internet on how and when individuals decide to adopt new products and services remains a critical yet under examined topic. This research examines the linkage between Internet use and the new product diffusion process through the examination of a very large, detailed, Internet usage dataset. Our 12-month longitudinal analysis of 34,731 customers' Internet related behaviours indicates that the introduction of Internet based services is positively correlated with expedited adoption behaviour. Customers that utilized a company's Internet related service innovations were over twice as likely to adopt the company's new product offering during the first year of introduction. We conclude by discussing the implications and need for additional research.

Canada will speed some adoptions of Haitian children, the Harper government announced Wednesday, but it won't loosen immigration restrictions to accommodate others escaping the chaos. Ottawa has tapped provincial authorities for lists of Haitian adoptions and it is consulting Haitian authorities on "fast-tracking" their foreign-adoption approval process. About 100 adoption cases had been identified and all prospective parents were to be contacted Wednesday. Are you a Manitoban in the process of adopting a child from Haiti? The Free Press would like to hear from you. Call 697-7292 or email city.desk@freepress.mb.ca.

It was a critical mistake -- the Haitian government has been very clear they did not want any children leaving without its express permission," [Chuck Johnson] said. "Maybe the Americans thought they were helping 33 kids, but now there's going to be a much slower process and maybe even a ban on future adoptions -- and that would be a tragedy.
"It's an example of why it's important to be patient and thorough," said Olivia Faires, director of children's services for LIRS. "It does add trauma, even in the midst of the chaos, to remove them from their customary surroundings."
"If not all their paperwork was together, that doesn't seem to me the worst crime in the world," she said. "The Haitian authorities should be trying to help a lot of kids get out -- both the kids in the process of ad...

I am surprised what these guys are up to," Yohane Banda told journalists outside the courtroom where a hearing on the human rights group's challenge was held. "Me and my family agreed with the adoption. I just want these people to leave my son alone.
The Human Rights Consultative Committee, a coalition of 67 rights groups, has petitioned the court to make sure no Malawian laws were broken in the adoption process, and to make the committee a party to the adoption so it can help assess [Madonna]'s fitness as a mother.
"We followed the adoption procedures to the letter," [Alan Chinula] said.

I am afraid [Madonna] may get angry and frustrated and decide to dump my son because of these people," said [David Banda], referring to criticisms from human rights activists in Malawi that officials there had bent the law to speed the adoption process.
"These so-called human rights activists are harassing me every day, threatening me that I am not aware of what I am doing," Banda said. "I'm afraid David may be sent back and the orphanage may not even accept him back. So where will he end up? Here? He will certainly die.
"That won't change anything for David," said Banda. "Please, let them leave my son alone."

SINCE THE EARLY 1990s, an increasing number of governments have developed programs to encourage internal departments, businesses and citizens to promote the adoption of information and communication technologies (ICTs). Ultimately, the goal of these programs is to increase sustainable practices; generate new growth and jobs; increase productivity; create public services that address the needs of citizens; increase the efficiency of public services; and improve the engagement and participation of citizens in the democratic process. Some of the best examples of successful, international ICT adoption programs include:
* The City of Hamilton: The city is using WiFi networks to measure customers' electrical consumption from smart meters on an hourly basis and report information back. Hamilto...

The Atlantic Schools of Business (ASB) conference is one of the longest running academic business conferences in Canada. It continued without the structure of an organizing committee for 34 years. In its 35th year, however, a formal structure was adopted. The adoption of formal structure provides an opportunity to look critically at the change process from various perspectives. This paper takes three interrelated approaches: reviews of archival material to provide context; surveys of ASB membership to ascertain individual perceptions of the organization's purpose; and interviews with key individuals involved in the change process to examine the decision to formalize. Our analysis shows that perceived organizational crisis and a search for enhanced legitimacy can precipitate isomorphism ...
