Standard, now partnered with its new sister company in Tempe, Ariz., Landmark Aviation, was recently acquired by Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE), a newly formed entity that intends to build a global aerospace cluster with $15 billion in capital from its mostly Dubai-based investors. Standard and Landmark were the first acquisitions of the emerging powerhouse.
Earlier in the week, DAE announced its intentions to buy 200 brand-new commercial jets -- 100 each from Airbus and Boeing -- instantly turning it into one of the largest commercial jet leasing companies in the world. It also signed another deal with GE Commercial Aviation Services to buy 20 Boeing and Airbus jets and another eight Airbus jets from Dubai's Emirates airline.
