A new urban reality is strengthening its grip on Alberta as a surge of people into the province brings Calgary's population close to the one million milestone. Indeed, both the broader Calgary and Edmonton regions, or census metropolitan areas, have passed that milestone.
An agglomeration in this case would be a central city and neighbouring communities linked to it by continuous built-up areas or commuters. Calgary's agglomeration includes Airdrie and Cochrane, while Edmonton's includes Strathcona County and Leduc.
Edmonton and Calgary are already thinking strategically. Edmonton's long-term infrastructure planning is being taken up as an international model, and the ImagineCalgary project takes the city's planning horizon out 100 years.

At the same time, the median total income for couple families in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in northern Alberta remained highest among "census agglomerations" at $130,100, up six per cent from 2004, the agency said. The area includes Fort McMurray and the province's oilsands development. The census agglomeration of Yellowknife ranked second at $121,000, followed by Labrador City at $95,700, the report showed.

An important operational aspect of international business is the coordination of widely dispersed resources of their networks of relationships with partners. Such interdependencies affect their ability to compete and/or create economic wealth. In order to examine the significance of network relationships in alliance capitalism and foreign direct investment (FDI), a network perspective as governance structure is used to examine the effects of resource interdependencies on relationship value. The article provides insights into alliance capitalism of interfirm relations for understanding implications for relationship value and increasing FDI between firms in industrial clusters of small and medium sized firms. On the basis that flows of local and foreign investment could be from internal o...
