It had been losing money for several years because it has not increased the levy of $2.80 per tire for more than a decade and did not charge a larger levy for truck tires. Currently everyone in Manitoba pays $2.80 per tire, including truck tires. Off road vehicles like agricultural equipment are not charged a levy in Manitoba. Saskatchewan just announced its first rate increase in more than a decade. As of Feb. 1, 2007 the new levy for passenger car tires will be $4.00, medium truck tires will be $9.00, large tires for agricultural equipment will be $15 and tires for off the road equipment will be between $35 and $75 dollars.
