The Americans are working on an ID for their country that would be consistent with the homeland security direction," [Gary Doer] said following the morning session at the Western Premiers' meeting in Gimli.
"They are not looking at having 50 separate states issuing a driver's licence and then having a separate ID for those who don't have a driver's licence. It's our view we should be working with the Americans on the how-to.
The western premiers also discussed agricultural subsidies this morning and called on Ottawa to loosen its "inflexible" policy on over-quota tariffs. "One-hundred per cent duty was not deterring trade. These are trade sanctions. The idea is to deter that trade. We're trying to get parties to comply with the WTO ruling," lamented a U.S. government official in the Gourmet News food industry blog.

The roles of the government, the socio-cultural-political context in international business, and their effects on competitiveness have largely been ignored. This study involves an investigation into the circumstances of international competitiveness and how it is pursued by firms from different sugar producing and marketing nations. It employs a qualitative method of comparative analysis between Australia, Brazil, and the European Union. This paper highlights the variations of the theme of international competitiveness reflected through different strategies chosen by the three dominant sugar economies
