ALGIERS, Algeria -- Two truck bombs set off in quick succession sheared off the fronts of UN offices and a government building in Algeria's capital Tuesday -- killing at least 26 people and wounding nearly 200 -- in an attack claimed by an affiliate of al-Qaida.
Al-Qaida in Islamic North Africa, in a posting on a militant website, called the UN offices "the headquarters of the international infidels' den." A UN official said at least 11 of its employees died.
Al-Qaida's North African branch's Web posting said two suicide bombers attacked the buildings with trucks carrying 770 kilograms of explosives each.

According to Arab broadcaster Al-Jazeera, a spokesman for al-Qaida in Islamic North Africa claimed responsibility for the attacks, saying they were carried out by three suicide bombers in trucks packed with explosives. The spokesman said the bombers targeted three sites: the government headquarters in Algiers and the Interpol offices and a special police forces building in the suburb of Bab Ezzouar.

Algeria imposed a ban on live cattle imports from Canada after the detection of Canada's first case of BSE (bovine spongiform encephalopathy), or mad cow disease, in May 2003. The government said the agreement on an export certificate for breeding cattle is a first step in fully restoring trade with Algeria.

In the last Parliament, [Rod Bruinooge] was on deck as a future major player in the Manitoba Conservative caucus, appointed as the parliamentary secretary for indian affairs. He was front and centre in June 2008 when Canada apologized to aboriginals for the residential schools tragedy. But after the election last fall, Bruinooge turned down another parliamentary secretary gig so he could focus on constituency work.
As one of Manitoba's two cabinet ministers, and the first and only MP ever elected with quadriplegia, [Steven Fletcher] is easily one of the most well known of Manitoba's MPs.
[Candice Hoeppner] has been vocal supporting issues such as crime prevention, and as a member of the Canada-Africa parliamentary Association she traveled to Algeria and Tunisia in February. She said she...

Would it not be wonderful if Hamas stopped thinking about destroying Israel? Hamas would do the area a big favour by declaring peace. The area could thrive and curious tourists would come from all over the world to visit. However, Hamas does not want peace. It is being financed by Iran and Arab countries to torment the Israelis. If Hamas stopped harassing the Israelis, its finances would dwindle.
As battles rage in and around Gaza, Israelbashers and Jew-haters take to the streets and continue their campaign of delegitimizing the state of Israel, the homeland of the Jewish people. Typical of the inflated rhetoric and misleading information was the pathetic piece by [Idris Elbakri]. Elbakri spews the normal drivel about Israel (colonial power, apartheid state, puppet of the United States,...

Recent history disproves [Keith Bradley]'s theory. In 2005, Israel completely withdrew from the entire Gaza Strip. Instead of seizing the historical opportunity to build a Palestinian society without Israel, Hamas, which has sworn to destroy Israel, responded with thousands of missiles and rockets into sovereign Israeli territory in addition to kidnapping and murdering Israelis. It is incredible that Israel's withdrawal has led to lawlessness and oppression in Gaza by the Hamas government, such that many Gazans wish Israel still controlled its streets.
Would Syria and Iran stop trying to take over Lebanon if there was an Israeli/Palestinian peace accord? How has Israel contributed to the genocide in Darfur? How are the Israelis impeding the Kurds in their bloody struggle for self-deter...

As far as Israel and the moderate Arab countries are concerned, however, there is no more important issue than the need to contain Iran. It's not just Iran's hegemonial ambitions and the nuclear threat to Israel, but also the Iranian support to seditious Sunni groups in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the Gaza Strip, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. All these countries feel that [Barack Obama]'s constant signals that the U.S. is eager to leave and go home have created a vacuum that Iran is ready to fill.
The report clearly states that Iran has bolstered its ability to make nuclear fuel, but has slowed its output. The report also says that, despite some improvements in its attitudes, Iran is still refusing to turn over important documents related to its military nuclear program. It concluded that if I...
