The provincial Labour Department's Workplace Safety and Health branch, however, doesn't abide by the rule, set by the province's Competitiveness, Training and Trade Department. Rather, inspectors judge the safety of the work of apprentices based on their skills and the skills of their supervisers. Unlike the trade regulation, which requires a certified electrician to directly work one-on-one with each apprentice, the branch inspectors look for "reasonable" supervision -- one licensed electrician can supervise more than one apprentice.
