In a statement of claim filed in August, the Mignaults alleged [Gary Palmer] instructed them on numerous occasions to withdraw funds from their Great-West accounts and deposit them in their personal bank accounts. They were then to deposit the same funds in Palmer's firm, J.D. Raleigh & Co. Ltd. (JDR), before they would be reinvested in other Great-West products.
According to court documents, Palmer denied making unauthorized withdrawals from the Mignaults' accounts or misappropriating funds to his own use. Instead, he said he "acquiesced in and at all times instructed by the plaintiffs" deposited their cheques into the operating account of JDR for "fixed terms at fixed rates of interest.
