The 'whiskey' makes it approachable, but the 'dix' makes it contemporary," says [Diane Prange], noting that the name also testeClassic Cruising / Larry D'Argisd well among the 20-somethings they surveyed. "The metaphor makes it something people can talk about and laugh about.
"It feels so overused by MySpace and things like that," says Prange, noting that there are probably 10,000 names starting with 'my.' This one, she says, just feels "incredibly dated. It feels like the only reason they came up with it is to get a URL, but then they don't even have their own URL. So I'm not sure what they're trying to do."
Plosive consonants -- sounds made by stopping the airflow, like D, B, T and K -- play big roles in a disproportionate number of top brand names: for instance, Kodak and Coca-Cola...

Cody Nolan says he wasn't lucky enough to score scarce tickets to the tournament, so he travelled with a carload of other friends from Rivers to watch last night's matchup between the Windsor Spitfires and the Moncton Wildcats in the Hockey House. Brandonite Brendan Lyons says while it's hard for the Hockey House to live up to the energy of 5,000 screaming fans in the arena, he was pretty satisfied with the entertainment in the bar.

Corydon already had a big following and we wanted to do something different," says general manager Kevin Byrne of his three-year-old pride and joy. "It's almost like you're at a resort or vacation spot when you're up there.
"Saturdays are Crank the Frank Nights 'round here," says owner Joe Loschaivo. "We play music from the Rat Pack era; when you're sharing a nice bottle of Chianti and there's a full moon out, Sinatra in the background just sets the mood."
"We get a lot of wedding parties up here taking pictures," says bartender Robin Starosilec. "We don't normally take reservations, but if you want to book it for say, 15 people, and it's a nice day out, we'll do it."

The bar scene in Winnipeg is bad compared to other major (and even very small) cities in North America, and it's time the city did something about it. Practically every large city in Canada and America has a bar street, and they typically draw a large crowd of young people. For those who have never been out of Winnipeg -- Pembina and Corydon are not bar streets... not even close.
Writing this I find myself (from Manitoba and having lived in Winnipeg the past four years) realizing that there is nothing in this city I can take pride in. Seriously, is there anything in Winnipeg that is cool? Stop and think about that.
One thing we can try to combat on this perception is that there is not much to do. If Winnipeg had a cool bar street there would always be something to do: "Let's go for a cr...

Purchase decorative glassware that can act as accessories when not in use. You have to store your wine/liqueur glasses anyway so you might as well use them as decoration. Set them on a decorative serving tray for every day display and for use when serving guests. Display them in open shelving or behind glass cabinet doors when not in use. Build or install a suspended glass storage unit like ones found in restaurants and bars where the glasses hang by their stems. Vintage decanters are a wonderful way store and display your fine liqueurs. Martini glasses, decorative ice buckets and other bar paraphernalia can all be used to create a unique vignette reminiscent of decades past.
ONE decor feature that I haven't covered yet in this column is the entertainment bar. We have one in our rec ro...
