Many contemporary immigrants belong to transnational families-families that maintain significant contact with two or more countries. These families identify with multiple environments and deal with life-cycle changes over extensive geographical space. This paper has two major aims: 1) to better understand how today's immigrant families facilitate intergenerational relationships across significant distances; and 2) to learn more about the understudied population of recent immigrant professionals from Eastern Europe in the United States. To accomplish mese aims, in-depth qualitative interviews were conducted with 24 immigrant mothers and fathers from Eastern European countries residing in the United States. Based on grounded theory methodology, we identified four themes: (1) The definitio...

According to Salovey and [Mayer, J. D] (1990), emotional intelligence includes an "ability to monitor one's own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among them and to use this information to...

The server spills my chicken filet and french fries all over the table. She's apologizing profusely and I'm shovelling it back on to the plate, saying, "Ten-second rule. No problem." She clearly thinks I'm mad.
From Sliven, we take a three-hour, $6 bus ride to Plovdiv. A young cab driver this time, with half the trunk of his Skoda taken up by stereo equipment. "Wow," I say. "Cool." He grins happily. "Da.
You may be approached at the station -- bus or train -- by people offering accommodation. Letting a room in your house to tourists is a common way to make a few bucks so, if you don't have a hotel booking, take a look at the pictures they'll show you. Make sure the place isn't too far out of the way and that you're not sharing the room with a stranger. You'll almost certainly share a b...
