The slayings in Duisburg, an industrial city in Germany's Ruhr region, marked the first time a southern Italian crime syndicate has exported a vendetta, Italian officials said. The syndicate -- called 'ndrangheta -- is based in Italy's Calabria region, linked to crime around the world, and today considered even more dangerous than the Sicilian Mafia. What happened was a qualitative leap," in the feud, said Italy's Deputy Interior Minister Marco Minniti. Italian Interior Minister Giuliano Amato said one of the victims in Duisburg apparently was involved in the original feud. Since the feud broke out 1991, 15 people have been killed, including Wednesday's victims.

In real life [Rosina Sinopoli] immigrated from Amato in southern Italy when she was 10. She trained as a hair stylist, and later created the Accademia Dei Capelli beauty school, and more recently the Capelli Academy. She's also well-known in Winnipeg as a playwright and director in the Italian community. Her father goes to Winnipeg anyway, and the little one is left with her wicked Aunt Cecilia in Amato, a town in southern Italy's Calabria region.
