I was sure the move would prove to be a mistake, and couldn't imagine that the Salvadoran specialties would be as big a hit in the far reaches of St.Vital as they were in the West End. In fact, I couldn't have been more wrong -- the place was packed on my visits, every table taken, with more prospective patrons waiting their turn at the door. One probably shouldn't underestimate the suburban appetite for something more interesting than the usual burgers, pizzas and fried chicken, and, as it happens, La Fiesta's made-from-scratch authentic cooking is well worth the trek from even distant suburbs.
Also marvellous, velvety soul-soothing tamales of corn flour dough. There are two kinds, both snack-sized: one stuffed with chicken and chick peas and steamed in a banana leaf ($2.50); the other...

Then consider A Taste of Laos's chicken wings, and you may never again consider any other kind. These couldn't possibly have come from some food factory, but instead exemplify a rare, made-from-scratch intensity of labour -- boned, stuffed with minced chicken, deep fried and served with a slightly sweet, chili-flecked dip. It's just one of the wonderful dishes at this little gem -- yes, another little gem, and only a few blocks from Cafe Dario, my little gem of two weeks ago.
There are many familiar items, often reminiscent of Thai and Vietnamese dishes -- logically enough, given Laos's location sandwiched between the two countries. Spring and salad rolls, for instance, neither of which I tried since, in the previous location I'd found them good, but not much different from their neighb...

* HIGHLIGHTS: Solid carved horses from hardwood of the kamagong tree get a lot of attention in the cultural display. In the show, dancers and musicians from the Kayumanggi Philippine Performing Arts troupe present a "tribal suite" showcasing various groups within Philippine society. The backing percussion is especially compelling.
* <b> FOOD: If you won't pay $9.50 for the asodo (barbecued ribs or steak) served with cheesy cornbread and coleslaw, you can make a meal out of empanadas (deep-fried pockets of spiced ground beef), chipa (a cheese roll of cassava dough) and sopa (moist, warm cornbread made with cheese and onions). All are $1 each.

In the last four decades, Nigeria has been confronted with variegated problems-widespread poverty, political violence, corruption, natural disasters, HIV/AIDS scourge, various endemic diseases, communal clashes, unemployment, strikes, poor government performance, etc. Underlying these concerns is the need to create wealth and employment as a means of addressing some of the challenges facing youths, women and men. Thus, this paper focuses on wealth and employment creation among women in Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State. It argues that with the right enabling environment created by government, private/public partnership, training and affirmative action wealth and employment creation is a distinct possibility. Creating wealth and employment among women will help curb social vices l...
