Prior to the strike, the city has been actively cataloguing citizen email addresses in a bid to keep the lines of communication between the resident and city hall always open, Hildebrand noted. In a survey of its members the advocacy group for small and medium-size businesses found a postal strike could increase operating costs by an average of $250 from alternate arrangements for shipping and delivery and lost revenue.

To be honest, I'm not sure if this spring-cleaning concept is ever applied to our workplaces. Do you know anyone who routinely engages in spring cleaning at work? I don't! In fact, I suspect there are many workplaces where desks, cupboards, storage sheds, bookshelves and even employee manuals, human resource practices and computer files haven't had a thorough cleansing for several years. So, this year, take it upon yourself to do just that -- plan for spring cleaning at work.
Interview practices -- While many managers are more skilled at interviewing than in previous years, still others continue to subject their candidates to illegal and inappropriate questions. For instance, candidates are continuing to report being asked questions such as "Are you married?', "Do you have children?...

For example, there's an image from Louis Riel's grave, a spot that marked the symbolic beginning of [Don Gill]'s project. There are pictures of dogs, ducks, art, and of the wild turkey who seems to have taken up residence downtown.
So Gill's work is all about archiving and cataloguing, about documenting what seems at first to be the ordinary and everyday. Of course, that's what a good detective has to do, right? Find the hidden clues that give away the whole mystery?
(And a real detective, of course, would know to even sift through his garbage can, since it's just sitting out there in the open, and practically begging to be sifted through. But I'm sorry to report there wasn't much exciting -- just a few granola bar wrappers, and the packaging from some parcels.)

Canadian researchers have co-authored a biodiversity study on DNA "bar-coding" they say will pave the way for cataloguing the world's organisms and lead to the discovery of untold numbers of new species.
The study also revealed sets of DNA "twins" -- species that have previously been classified as distinct, such as the king eider and common eider duck species, but that have the same 650-digit DNA bar code, although each would have a unique full DNA chain.
DNA bar-coding is not perfect, but I don't know of any other human enterprise that's perfect.
