The big three macronutrients that plants need are nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). Nitrogen aids the healthy growth of leaves, phosphorus encourages root development, and potassium promotes flowering and fruit production. A chemical fertilizer of 20:20:20 would have a balanced ratio of NPK.
Other macronutrients such as calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) and sulfur (S) are usually present in sufficient amounts in healthy garden soil, so applying plant food is not always needed. Sulfur is naturally produced in adequate amounts from the ongoing decomposition of soil organic matter. Adding finished compost to garden soil immediately improves fertility and overall texture and tilth.
It's better to under-feed rather than over-feed your garden. It's pretty convenient to grab the Mirac...

No one was more deflated than Gerry Delorme, head disaster manager for the province. His initial H1N1 pandemic plan was based on the capacity in the province-wide system to deliver 220,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine weekly.
The plans, such as they are, have worked reasonably well in Manitoba, until the supply chain busted a link. In advance of H1N1 appearing, the federal government and its vaccine manufacturer, GSK, had already run a mock trial to ensure the safety and integrity of the production. Vaccine production for H1N1 began impressively quick, especially after it was found a chemical booster was needed to improve effectiveness of the vaccine.
H1N1 came back early to Canada, beginning in British Columbia at the start of the school year. And the vaccine rollout started last week. Ev...
