I would like to express my disappointment at the Manitoba government's decision to freeze civil service wages for two years. Government cannot keep freezing and lowering taxes year after year and not expect to run deficits. The fairest way to maintain and improve public services is to increase income taxes that are based on ability to pay. Despite right-wing propaganda, Manitoba is not the highest-taxed province in Canada, nor are its civil servants the highest paid. Parents who choose to display gay pride, vegetarianism or even wear fur in this day and age are affirming their own lifestyle, which doesn't encroach on other people's lives nor does it force them to follow suit. Therefore, comparing apples to oranges in this situation has nothing to do with being politically correct or not...
