Canada has no involvement in Iraq, and Canadian soldiers were in no way involved in the air strike that killed more than 15 Afghan civilians in the village of Azizi last week. That was an American air strike on a Taliban force using Afghan villagers as human shields. The Americans have apologized -- even though there was no intent to kill anyone but Taliban terrorsists, and it is clear that the blame lies with the Taliban. The Geneva Convention forbids combatants from disguising themselves as civilians or hiding within a civilian population. The Americans have not only apologized, but have also ordered an investigation into how it happened and have offered to pay compensation, an unusual step to restore the good will that the attack cost the coalition.
