One of the most poignant letters in the collection is Lucien's answer to his mother's request to explain what the word "missing" meant. Shot in a friendly fire incident, Aimé was declared medically unfit for further service. He married a Frenchwoman who was the niece of St. Léon's parish priest and never returned to Canada. We are not told whether his mother ever visited him in France but it seems unlikely.
