  • The impact of the Internet on how and when individuals decide to adopt new products and services remains a critical yet under examined topic. This research examines the linkage between Internet use and the new product diffusion process through the examination of a very large, detailed, Internet usage dataset. Our 12-month longitudinal analysis of 34,731 customers' Internet related behaviours indicates that the introduction of Internet based services is positively correlated with expedited adoption behaviour. Customers that utilized a company's Internet related service innovations were over twice as likely to adopt the company's new product offering during the first year of introduction. We conclude by discussing the implications and need for additional research.

  • SO, you think you're a travel agent? You've got a computer, high-speed Internet and a burgeoning library of websites that promise the best deals on airfares and accommodations, from Farecompare.com to Hotels.ca. Plus, you googled "African safari" and found a slick site selling off Big 5 tours for next to nothing. Now, all you need is seven hours on a Saturday to research and book your trip. Brides and grooms don't want the stress of dealing with their uncles and cousins and all the questions: 'Can I stay longer?' et cetera," [Matt Soloway] says. • The convergence of computer, communications, and consumer electronics (3Cs) technologies, catalysed by advancement of protocol standards, has forced three previously separate retailing industries to integrate their business operations, such as consolidation of retail outlets. To survive in this highly competitive market, companies in the 3Cs retail industry in Taiwan are adopting innovative marketing strategies and aggressive promotion campaigns to strengthen their customer relationships. From the consumer point of view, lying at the core of customer relationship management are such notions as commitment, trust, and value. This study examines the effect of service quality on cus...

  • Rapid changes in the information and technology landscape provide challenges that at times conflict with traditional notions of school libraries and their role in learning, literacy and living. They herald important opportunities for school librarians to rethink, re-imagine and recreate a dynamic learning environment for school libraries. This shifting information environment includes the publishing arena increasingly characterized by a movement away from a "hard copy paradigm" (Rowlands & Nicholas, 2008, p. 8), the growth of a pervasive, integrated information environment characterized by vast quantities of digital content, open choice, collaborative and participatory digital spaces, and the transition of the Web environments from consumption of information to creation of informati...

  • Soon after, [Robert Walsh] arranged a meeting with the Federal Bureau of Investigation's head ballistician in December 1990. He saw a great opportunity and acted on it. What started as a small research and development project within an existing process automation company soon became a major business on its own. Forensic Technology Inc., which designs and assembles its equipment in Côte St-Luc, Quebec, now employs about 200 people and almost every ballistics laboratory in the world uses IBIS technology. The company has equipment at half a dozen Canadian sites and 235 ballistics labs in the United States. Walsh said, "I guess we are the world standard; we are in 43 countries. Prior to the IBIS system, moving ballistics information between cities, let alone countries, was tedious, paper-w...
