The convergence of computer, communications, and consumer electronics (3Cs) technologies, catalysed by advancement of protocol standards, has forced three previously separate retailing industries to integrate their business operations, such as consolidation of retail outlets. This provides an unprecedented level of convenience for consumers to work, shop, and network with each other. To survive in this highly competitive market, companies in the 3Cs retail industry in Taiwan are adopting innovative marketing strategies and aggressive promotion campaigns to strengthen their customer relationships. From the consumer point of view, lying at the core of customer relationship management are such notions as commitment, trust, and value. This study examines the effect of service quality on cus...

Drawing upon existing literature, this paper briefly discusses aspects of conspicuous consumption. Analysis of the construct has been done in the perspective of changing capitalist structure and dominating socio-philosophical ideologies, especially postmodernism. Effort has been made to extend the original concept and propose necessary refinement and integration of relevant concepts to enable a meaningful, holistic, and contemporary interpretation of the said construct. This paper examines different aspects of consumer behavior, helps to generate some important directions for future research in the field, and also discusses these issues in the context of the transitional socio-economic background of India.

Teenage girls represent the most highly sought after market segment in the U.S. because of their keen interest in shopping and their significant spending power. Teenage girls spend more time than teenage boys in shopping environments and outspend boys in every category except videogames. So, teenage girls clearly love to shop--but do they perceive themselves as good shoppers or is this a group who feels out of control when it comes to spending wisely and making considered decisions regarding purchases? If they lack the expertise and self-control to perform shopping tasks successfully, then there are numerous financial and psychological implications, including accumulating debt and exhibiting compulsive shopping behaviors that continue into adulthood.
In order to examine teenage girls in...

Market expansion is a very important strategic option in the developing economies. Literature on marketing to the "bottom of the pyramid" and the "blue ocean" strategy has brought to the fore the issue of direct involvement of manufacturers or corporations in expanding markets. Though the "bottom of the pyramid" and the "blue ocean" strategy frameworks are important references for development of conceptual framework for market expansion, neither of these can be considered as a complete conceptualization in itself. The authors synthesize extant knowledge on the subject and provide a conceptual framework by looking into fundamental issues such as what is a market, what is market expansion, and what factors affect market expansion.
Unlike in case of the "blue ocean" strategy framework, th...

Marketing research is increasingly interested in people's perception- and affect-laden, identity-involving relationships to companies and their brands. However, little attention has been paid to (1) how, specifically, such identity relationships to companies will stem from identity relationships to various other things that are relevant to people and associated with companies. Besides, (2) the influences of such relationships to companies on various business-relevant behaviors of the individuals, let alone organizations which the individuals may represent, have not been examined in a comprehensive way.
This article addresses the identified research gaps by presenting an integrative framework that introduces a special kind of identity relationship, termed affective self-affinity (ASA). ...

In an evolving landscape of traditional and new literacies, the roles of the school library and teacher librarian are changing. In order to support instruction in multiple literacies, teacher librarians must rethink both collections and services. Materials featuring popular culture influences are explored for their relevance to several types of literacy instruction. The inclusion of popular culture materials in school library collections can support achievement in traditional literacy while facilitating connection with everyday literacy practices. Popular culture materials also provide instructional opportunities for critical media literacy as well as information literacy. Popular culture texts are worthy of inclusion in school library collections for reasons enhancing both pedagogy and...
