The Canadian Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (the Standards) introduces the concept that a member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) can fill both the role of appraiser and consultant on the same assignment. The primary difference between these roles is that the member is allowed to charge fees on a contingency basis for the consulting role, whereas contingent fees can never be associated with the appraisal function.
