Some say 'That's a pretty name,"' said resident-to-be Stephen Narcisco. "I think of the Holy Mother. It's her town, a spiritual town. It's blessed.
"We're going to control all the commercial real estate, so there's not going to be any pornography sold in this town," he declared. "We're controlling the cable system. Our pharmacies are not going to be able to sell condoms or dispense contraceptives."
[Blake Gable], the project manager, said, "All we've said to our retailers is, 'Hey, there's a Catholic institution here. There's a Catholic institution there. We created this environment. Just pay attention to where you are and please respect that. If there's a certain product you need to sell, then sell it.' We're not in the business of telling people who own small businesses what they ca...

Fifteen per cent of couples who want to get pregnant can't and very often this is a failure of ovulation," he said. "This gives us a clue or a track to follow whereby we can start to look at some of these other things that are very important to reproduction and infertility.
"This discovery means we can envision new contraceptives that selectively stop ovulation," [Bruce D. Murphy] said. "If we can target the gene directly it could be possible to create a contraceptive that would be more effective and produce less side-effects than current steroid-based forms of birth control."

If we don't report what natural products react with what medications, how can we effectively counsel patients in what they should avoid combining?" said Edmonton's Dr. Sunita Vohra, one of the authors of the study, which appeared in this month's edition of the medical journal The Annals of Pharmacotherapy.
Vohra, who heads the Complementary and Alternative Research and Education program at the Stollery Children's Hospital, said 71 per cent of Canadians use natural health products such as St. John's wort, echinacea and Chinese medicines.
Many didn't recognize that St. John's wort can also cause failure of oral contraceptives, or that cranberry juice -- taken to calm bladder infections -- can make the blood-thinning drug Warfarin unstable.

Dr. Frank Plummer, an HIV and infectious disease expert with the Public Health Agency of Canada, said he first studied the effectiveness of N-9 in the 1980s and found that contraceptive sponges with the spermicide didn't protect sex workers from getting HIV. He said N-9 acts like a detergent to destroy sperm, but can also damage genital tissues because of its toxicity.
Although the Public Health Agency of Canada last issued a warning about N-9 on their website in 2006, most Canadians are still unaware that contraceptives containing N-9 won't protect them against disease.
Basically, if you're having lots of sex you shouldn't be using anything with N-9," Plummer said during a phone interview from Seattle. "Nobody recommends it for the protection of [STIs].

The problem is, vast numbers of people step on planes, and so it's a tiny risk multiplied by a huge denominator, so that in terms of a public health issue it's a highly significant problem," he said.
Association spokesman Anthony Council said many airlines inform passengers of the risk of blood clots. "The advice that we give to passengers is that if you're in one of those at-risk groups you should speak to your physician before travelling," he told the AP.
Other factors that can affect a person's chances of developing blood clots are obesity, genetic conditions, age, use of oral contraceptives, and being shorter than 5-foot-4 or taller than 6-foot-4. The theory is that short people are less mobile because their feet dangle and taller people because they are more cramped.
