Intuitive decision-making studies the decision-maker's decision-making behavior from the perspective of image thinking, which it poses a challenge to the classic decision-making hypothesis pursuing "optimal decision" because the outcomes of intuitive decision-making are difficulty to measure and its process isn't easy to describe and control. Therefore it has not drawn the experts' attention. This paper tries to establish an evaluation model of the intuitive decision-making as to giving a direction and inspiration of the quantization of intuitive decision-making, based on the systematic analysis of the existing domestic and international theory of intuitive decision-making.
Following this introduction, the author develops a theoretical framework for understanding brain systems that would produce mental representations with the properties just described. For this purpose, he introduces the principle of learning by prediction and links it to Bayesian decision theory. He argues that many of the cognitive phenomena considered can be explained if it is assumed that the brain operates as an ideal Bayesian observer. This conceptualization directly builds on the notion that perception and action are proactive processes and involve the generation of mental models. The models generated by the brain are continuously tested against reality and adapted using sensory signals and prediction errors, which are computed based on probabilistic knowledge derived from past exp...

This study draws on the Theory of Planned Behaviour to examine the role of gender in the decision to be mentored. Contrary to expectations, men and women employ similar decision criteria in the decision to seek a mentor. The primary driver for seeking a mentor was to obtain psychosocial support, including personal support, acceptance, having a confidant, being trusted and friendship. Men were more likely than women to seek a mentor when they valued increased autonomy. The implications of the findings for protégés, mentors and career development professionals are noted.
A bleak tone is established early as Harry and his vile Muggle (non-Wizard) cousin Dudley (Harry Melling) are accosted by a pair of soul-sucking, spectral Dementors, a sign that all the denizens of Harry's wizarding world are choosing up sides, represented by Harry's benign headmaster/mentor Dumbledore (Michael Gambon) and the newly reconstituted dark wizard Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). Infuriatingly, the Wizard establishment exemplified by the Ministry of Magic officially denies Voldemort's return. They even attempt to expel Harry for defending himself, a machination of the Neville Chamberlain-like minister Cornelius Fudge (Robert Hardy). He is thwarted, but his minion Dolores Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) is sent to Hogwarts to assert the ministry's influence in the school. Umbridge hersel...

Behind the joint ownership of financial resources is the couple's adherence to the values of family collectivism and relational harmony, and this is so even when the spouses may have kept some "other incomes" in their own pockets. "Whatever the choice [spending] we make, we do it for the best interest of the family" and "We are the family!" are among the common responses from the collectivized couples. A middle-aged businessman said of his wife with gratitude: "My wife is very family orientated. A few years ago, she received a scholarship for graduate studies from a university in the U.S. Worried that I would not be able to take care of myself and our , daughter, she gave up the opportunity.... She has sacrificed so much for our family." His wife (a government official), in a separate i...

The uproar began a week ago when talk show personality Don Imus made racist and sexist on-air comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team. Previously, MSNBC had announced a two-week suspension of the long-time "shock jock. Pope Benedict, in his first extended reflections on evolution published as pontiff, said Charles Darwin's theory cannot be finally proven and science has unnecessarily narrowed humanity's view of creation. The question is not to either make a decision for a creationism that fundamentally excludes science, or for an evolutionary theory that covers over its own gaps and does not want to see the questions that reach beyond the methodological possibilities of natural science," the Pope said.
Teenage girls represent the most highly sought after market segment in the U.S. because of their keen interest in shopping and their significant spending power. Teenage girls spend more time than teenage boys in shopping environments and outspend boys in every category except videogames. So, teenage girls clearly love to shop--but do they perceive themselves as good shoppers or is this a group who feels out of control when it comes to spending wisely and making considered decisions regarding purchases? If they lack the expertise and self-control to perform shopping tasks successfully, then there are numerous financial and psychological implications, including accumulating debt and exhibiting compulsive shopping behaviors that continue into adulthood. In order to examine teenage girls in...
