Mr. [Hugh McFadyen] should pledge to publish the results of standards tests of each school because that, like Mr. [Jon Gerrard]'s targeting of the top 10 dropout high schools, can underline where work has to be done -- schools in richer neighbourhoods might be surprised how they compare to others in less affluent areas. Mr. [Gary Doer] has done none of this, fearing the wrath of the teachers' union. That may be why Manitoba struggles to reduce its dropout rate. Manitoba needs to find out why many of its young people see no point in a diploma. That research needs to be done by whoever is elected premier.
