I have been a bus rider for many years, and have often come away from a bus ride thinking bus drivers are simply not paid enough to deal with some of the passenger behaviours I've been witness to, behaviour I would categorize as boorish, immature, or outright abusive. I've seen drivers been spit on, sworn at, threatened and grabbed. I've watched them politely try to deal with intoxicated individuals, even people who have got on the bus with bloody faces. I've watched them take the barbs of grumpy passengers who are angry the bus is running a little behind schedule (like any driver would purposely fall behind knowing they're going to get an earful at the next dozen stops).
