From the strong but emotionally damaged sister Effie, to the Jacinta of [Duncan MacAskill]'s memory, to cynical Sextus Gillis and his cousin John who were the focus of the previous novel, [Linden MacIntyre] weaves a mottled tapestry of then and now. It allows the reader glimpses into a community's troubled past and the priesthood's changing reality.
In some ways MacAskill is not unlike Father Rivas of Graham Greene's The Honorary Consul, though MacAskill is, shall we say, a much better person.
He isn't nearly as dangerous to himself as Pinky from Greene's Brighton Rock. Yet neither suffers the same depth of faith anguish that MacAskill does.

An incident occurred involving a "training" munition, an Air Force master sergeant, and his squadron commander. The land mine was later used to create a mold for plastic renditions of the mine that would later be dispersed during operational readiness evaluations and inspections across the Air Force. The unit ended up having to contract Marine Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) support to help inspect and certify some of the other training munitions whose condition was suspect.

Pauline Boutal is one of St. Boniface's best-known artists. So it's only fitting that Hommage à Pauline Boutal is one of the final events of St. Boniface's centennial anniversary this year.
The exhibition was co-ordinated in collaboration with the launch of the book Pauline Boutal: Destin d'artiste by Louise Duguay. The book, which highlights Boutal's rich and artistic life, tells the story of her life through her work and through personal stories by friends and relatives. The exhibition complements the book by taking viewers through a small selection of her work in the same way.
Pastel was Boutal's medium of choice in the beginning years of her career. Beautiful nudes such as Nicole illustrate Boutal's ability to translate the softness and subtlety of human nature. Her delicate applica...

The last few years have seen a rapid growth of research on the topic of tactile attention. We review the evidence showing that attention can be directed to the tactile modality, or to the region of space where tactile stimuli are presented, in either an endogenous or exogenous (top-down or bottom-up) manner. We highlight the latest findings on the interaction between these two forms of attentional orienting in touch. We also review the latest research on tactile numerosity judgments and change detection highlighting the severe cognitive (attentional) limitations that constrain people's ability to process more complex tactile information displays. These findings are particularly important given that tactile interfaces are currently being developed for a number of different application do...
