We propose that there are three important organizational levers that influence work-related need satisfaction: job design, interpersonal relations, and compensation. Need satisfaction and autonomous motivation have been associated with jobs that are designed to be more interesting and meaningful (Gagné, Senécal, & Koestner, 1997; Millette & Gagné, 2008). They have also been linked to managerial support ([Baard] et al., 2004; Deci et al., 2001; Lynch, Plant, & Ryan, 2005) and transformational leadership (Bono & Judge, 2003), which refers to managers being charismatic, inspirational, and considerate toward subordinates. Controlled motivation, on the other hand, has been associated with the presence of contingent rewards (Deci, Koestner, & Ryan, 1999), deadlines (Amabil...

BDI questions (i.e., Tell me about a time when you faced a specific situation, what did you do?) were commonly reported - "always" (48.2%) or "most of the time" (37.5%). SI questions (i.e., "What would you do if you were faced with this particular situation") were used, but with greater variability. Respondents reported using this type of question "always" (17.6%), "most of the time" (26.6%), or "sometimes" (34.6%). Just over 16% reported that they "always" use both BDI and SI questions, and 4.6% reported "always" using BDI questions while "never" using SI questions. There were no instances of respondents "always" using SI questions, but never using BDI questions.
Respondents identified their own level of interviewing expertise as "very advanced" (18.9%), "advanced" (41.5%), "average" (...

Unfortunately, poor written communication skills that lead to misunderstandings or misrepresentations will cost an employer time and money. Just think about the amount of time wasted when you created and wrote a document but then spent a lot more time preparing and sending out specific clarifications to all those who asked questions because they didn't understand your message. Think about the short- and long-term impact of poorly written correspondence when it's perceived as an offensive insult by one of your customers. What about the money lost when you misquoted your product costs but are forced to stand by your original quote. Finally, think about the poor public relations and the potential lawsuit you face when your correspondence is perceived to be harassment. There are no two ways...
