When I first looked down and saw it, I couldn't believe everybody missed it for 300 years," said Charles Beeker, a scuba-diving archeologist who teaches at Indiana University.
Beeker said the wreckage has been aggressively sought by treasure hunters, including a group with a permit from the Dominican government to scour Catalina for remnants of the ship, which historians believe was scavenged of treasure and burned shortly after [William Kidd] abandoned it.
"We believe this is a living museum," said Beeker, who has previously helped the Dominican government open underwater parks that feature cannons, jar fragments and other items recovered from early 18th-century shipwrecks.

Looking ahead, [Emily Cordonier], believes that Canada has its work cut out. "Cuba (who is in their Pool A) is always excellent," she said, "and the U.S. (Pool B) is sending one of its strongest squads. We want to take them down, because in doing so we set ourselves up quite well for the cross-over.
This is my fourth season and I have been team captain since 2004," she said Monday, prior to Canada's opening match against Costa Rica at the University of Manitoba's Investors Group Athletic Centre. "I've had it (the injury) for quite a while now, so I have to recover because I want to be ready for the Olympic qualifier in December." The qualifier, to be played in Japan this November, ...

Perspectives on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Mining, and Sustainable Development Taking Harper's and the World Bank's positions together as representative of the current dominant view of the role of foreign direct investment in mining in Latin America, we must ask under what conditions mining activity might contribute to poverty alleviation and sustainable development. Harper points to the world-class corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives of Canadian mining companies, along with the Canadian government's National Roundtable report on CSR and the Extractive Sector in Developing Nations (Interview, 2007) and the World Bank's Extractive Industries Review (EIR) points to the enabling conditions of "pro-poor public and corporate governance," "effective social and envir...
