Alberta has the most advanced e-waste recycling program in Canada and it runs on the user-pay principle. Anywhere from $5 to $45 is levied by electronics retailers and distributors, depending on the size of television or type of equipment purchased. The levy is remitted back to an arm's-length agency that runs the collection program and oversees the recycling. The levy is passed on to the consumer, often as a special fee listed on the cash register receipt.
NO, it's old electronics you'd normally send to the dump -- TVs, computers, printers, stereos, DVD players and VCRs, fax machines, copiers, microwaves.
TAKE them to one of the depots that have just been set up. From there, they'll be sent to a recycling firm to be reused. Here's the list of Winnipeg depots.

On provincial budget day, [Sam Katz] said city officials were still trying to determine what the 2009 provincial budget meant for Winnipeg. Two weeks later, the total amount of additional revenue heading Winnipeg's way appears to be $1.55 million, according to a summary provided by Winnipeg chief financial officer Mike Ruta.
If this budget has any message, it says playing nice guy with the province is not working. Maybe there has to be a different strategy," said Wyatt, who also suggested Katz has made it easy for the province to ignore Winnipeg's request for more money.
"It doesn't help that we're freezing our (property) taxes and cutting business taxes while we're saying we have an infrastructure crisis," he said, referring to the mayor's priorities within Winnipeg's operating budget...

Supply professionals need to be assertive and challenge the leading suppliers to step up to the plate with innovation. For example, Acklands-Grainger's (A-G) success with a zero packaging program for a major Canadian university led to a scalable solution for many of its customers. A-G created a system of reusable totes which requires no additional packaging materials. This saves A-G time and materials and saves its customers from segregating unnecessary packaging into a recycling process or landfill sites.
