They've successfully managed the messages available to the average Chinese citizen, and this has fuelled broad public support for a heavy-handed approach to controlling unrest," said David Bandurski, a Hong Kong University expert on Chinese media.
"Beijing must decide itself; it should immediately negotiate with the [Dalai Lama]," European Parliament President Hans-Gert Poettering was quoted as saying by Germany's Bild am Sonntag. "If there continue to be no signals of compromise, I see boycott measures as justified.

Former NHL greats Peter Stastny, Slava Fetisov, Jyrki Lumme and Arturs Irbe were on hand to present the Cup to lawmakers and fans Tuesday at the European Parliament.
Hopefully we can start a new tradition, and we might have, maybe not once a year, but once a while, have the Stanley Cup here at the European Parliament," said Stastny, who is now a lawmaker at the EU assembly.
"Obviously it's very close to the NHL playoffs, (but) the timing was perfect. We were able to do it," [Phil Pritchard] said.

Kaczynski has brought in a well-respected free-market economist, Stanislaw Kluza, as finance minister, after a previous incumbent, Zyta Gilowska, was forced out on (possibly trumped-up) spying charges. But the Ka...

Just as in Canada and the United States, the idea was met with howls of protest from the manufacturers, especially the Germans. Cries of 'It's not fair' echoed through the halls of the European parliament. The result is that the regulations may be weakened and delayed, likely until 2015.
I find it funny that a German company, such as Porsche, which has engineered a strange design like the 911 into a world-beater, would even consider whining about regulations. Mercedes is in there as well, making excuses, something we would expect from a less-respected company, perhaps, but not from one with such an impressive history. My stand is not a pop...
