Today, the majority of the people living in French Polynesia are the Maohi, commonly referred to as Tahitians. Next to the Tahitians are the French who live or work on the islands and resorts. The 'Demi' are of mixed blood. The official language is French, but English is spoken widely, especially on the resorts. Locals speak 'Reo Maohi' among themselves.
