Its Winnipeg, NCR staff does dispatch-support work, mostly for its U.S. technicians. According to one worker, the Winnipeg group numbers about 100 people. Peter Gordon, Inspyre's vice-president of operations, said although the slowdown in the North American economy means it can be a struggle to find new business, the fact that Inspyre is an outsourcing company means it can help its customers reduce their costs.

I know they wouldn't enjoy the other side of it if we were going home and this was over, so we need to enjoy this. Kevin Kruger's first NCAA tournament game certainly wasn't his best, considering he missed all eight of his shots -- all three-pointers -- in UNLV's 67-63 victory over Georgia Tech. "I kept telling him, 'You are going to make some shots,"' teammate Wendell White said. "He did. That's what happened.

  • We hated to see [Joey Crawford] get canned," [Billy Hunter] told a sports lawyers' convention on Saturday. "I think in all probability Joey will be back. We've expressed our willingness to work with him. The fans were even louder this time, however, because the former Georgia Bulldogs standout was paired in the final group with Georgia Tech graduate Troy Matteson. "Say if I was a leader at some other golf tournament, I'm sure it wouldn't be like this," [Ryuji Imada] said. "But we're in Georgia. We both went to a local school here. I was different, but it was a lot of fun." "It's a matter of who I am," last year's Tour de France champion testified. "It wouldn't serve any purpose for me to cheat and win the Tour, because I wouldn't be proud of it. That wasn't the goal to begin with."

  • I don't think [Al Davis] has forgotten what a good football player is," draft analyst Mike Mayock said. "They have drafted very well on the defensive side of the ball. The bottom line is that some of their offensive picks have not panned out. They need to get better in a hurry on the offensive side. With two talented quarterbacks in LSU's JaMarcus Russell and Notre Dame's Brady Quinn and top-rated receiver Calvin Johnson of Georgia Tech available, the Raiders hope to remedy that situation later this month. "It's no secret what Al Davis likes. He likes big guys who can run fast on either side of the football," Mayock said. "Last year, they had the opportunity to draft a quarterback with Matt Leinart and Jay Cutler and went with Michael Huff instead."

  • From the department of spin, here is Eskimo offensive lineman Patrick Kabongo in the wake of last week's 30-7 loss to Calgary: "There's a fine line between winning and losing," Kabongo told the Edmonton Sun. "Calgary does have a good team, I'm not questioning that, but sometimes they get presented in the media in a way that makes them look a little bit better than they are." Yeah, whatever... juicy tidbit: when the Ottawa Renegades folded in the spring of 2006 and the Roughriders made a deal with Hamilton to get the first overall pick -- they grabbed Kerry Joseph -- part of the trade included a swap of negotiation-list quarterbacks. Hamilton ended up with the rights to Georgia Tech QB Reggie Ball, the Riders landed the rights to some guy named Darian Durant.

  • A lot of these guys have been through Oklahoma-Nebraska, Georgia-Georgia Tech, Florida-Florida State and all those (rivalries) and so they know exactly what the atmosphere is. That's what we want to do, say, 'This is the type of atmosphere that you're going to see and now it's at a professional level.' HERE'S ex-Bomber Mike Abou-Mechrek, this time in a chat with the Regina Leader-Post, on some of his fondest Labour Day memories: "I also remember (Winnipeg placekicker) Troy Westwood sucking all of the time," Abou-Mechrek said. "Even if he plays, he's probably going to suck and that gives us an edge. Other than him sucking all of the time? Just sit on the visitors' bench for five minutes on a Labour Day game and you'll learn what being a Roughriders fan is all about."
