Israel continued to concentrate its most intense fire on Hezbollah strongholds in southern Beirut and major transport arteries leading from the south to the capital and to Syria during the fourth day of a war triggered by Hezbollah's kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers in a cross-border raid five days ago.
Israel accused Iran Saturday of supplying the sophisticated radar-guided missile used in the attack on its Saar 5 missile ship, as well as the men to run it. The ship, which was struck 15 kilometres from shore, was so badly damaged that it had to return to the Israeli port of Haifa for emergency repairs. Israel charged that that members of Iran's Republican Guard were in Lebanon providing Hezbollah with help.

This is no hyperbole. In 1999, the U.S. government turned two components of a decommissioned nuclear missile field along Interstate 90 into a tourist attraction, mainly to remind future generations how close the Soviets and Americans came to destroying each other during the Cold War and taking the rest of humanity with them.

In their toughest comments to date on North Korea's missile tests, Japanese officials yesterday called for debate on whether their country's pacifist constitution would allow Japan to pursue military capabilities to pre-emptively strike at North Korean missile bases. Japan currently does not possess such technology.
With all of Japan within easy range of North Korean missiles, an NHK television poll showed that 82 per cent of respondents said they felt "fearful or "somewhat fearful" of the seven missiles that North Korea shot into the Sea of Japan on July 5.

Four years later, the air force still hasn't come up with a way to recognize the Predator's contributions in Afghanistan and Iraq. "There is no valor in flying a remotely piloted aircraft. I get it," said Col. Luther "Trey" Turner, a former fighter pilot who has flown Predators since 2003. "But there needs to be an award to recognize crews for combat missions.
Most mission statements are long, complicated and italicized," he said. "Mine was three words: "Kill (Expletive) Heads." His troops shortened it further to "KFH" and painted it on the cluster of trailers that served as their makeshift headquarters. They emblazoned KFH on their unit letterhead. Everyone in the unit carried a poker chip bearing the three letters.
