We delineated the extent to which various facets of information communications technology (ICT) are used and are perceived as useful by treasury managers, focusing on three indicators of financial department performance: cost savings, improvements in the quality of the information, and enhancements in the use of scenario simulations for decision making. Specifically, we examined the relationship between ICT use in cash management functions within financial departments, perceptions of the importance of cash management to treasury managers, and their perceptions of the usefulness of ICT to financial department performance. The theoretical and applied implications of these findings are discussed.

There's no need for any of this. Contemporary management practices, information technology and transportation systems mean that we can centralize activities; we don't have to have them strung out like baubles on a necklace.
It's not that way in independent enterprises where "get rid of the middle man" is a popular slogan. At the turn of the 20th century, Canada had many plants and head offices in central Canada. Middle men or manufacturers' agents in Winnipeg sold their goods in the rapidly expanding west.
Of course, my dream to snuff the provinces will never happen for at least one major reason: Prime Minister Stephen Harper. He doesn't seem to want a strong federal government, and -- if his critics are correct -- he's flirting with a continental arrangement with the U.S. and Mexico. B...

Steve Lassey, program manager, Business Application Management from the city's IT services was tasked with building an intelligent transportation system (ITS) for the city. One of the questions he is often asked is how to get started. His answer: "Stay attuned to your clients'business requirements, and look for opportunities where ITS is a 'good fit'." He also says that, "You must be prepared to become an "ITS evangelist" throughout the organization. [This] also helps to identify and include stakeholders in your ITS program [who] must understand that this is not a 'gee-whiz' toy, but a valuable business tool. You must be able to demonstrate the value of ITS to all areas of the business, and how the investments can be leveraged over time to improve business processes, and facilitate comm...

The residential appraisal market has been witness to tremendous change in the recent past, not the least of which are the significant impacts resulting from the use of information technology. The Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC) has heard from some members that certain Appraisal Management Companies (AMC) have been aggressively driving down appraisal fees, while at the same time demanding higher level of service. The AIC reminds appraisers that they must not sacrifice the quality of their work and risk breaching the professional practice standards. The AIC encourages members to contact the Counselor, Professional Practice whenever they feel they are being pressured to attain a specific outcome by anyone, including AMCs.

With the increasing possibilities of providing services to employees through Internet and Intranet applications, Human Resource professionals just need to click once or twice and a specially designed HR website leads to the required information. Employees would no longer be held responsible for the operational and administrative HR activities. Electronic-Human Resource Management (e-HRM) is the engine for pushing down the costs of any company and making it profitable. Information technology has been identified as an impetus of HR's transition to becoming a strategic business partner. In this study, we extend this work one step further and explore the role of information technology in shaping the competency requirements of HR professionals.
