  • Kevin McGuinness, a lawyer for nearly 30 years, epitomizes modern Canadian corporatecommercial law. He first came to public notice as the co-author of the Ontario Construction Lien Act - one of the few such works ever to become a best seller - which has influenced Canadian legislation ever since. Kevin wrote an analysis of that Act as his doctoral dissertation in law. He has also written leading texts on guarantees; Canadian corporate law; the world's largest published collection of banking and finance precedents; a similarly large collection of precedents on the sale and supply of goods; and, most recently, a legal textbook on the sale and supply of goods. Many of you will know him as the co-author of Municipal Procurement as well as the co-author of "Municipal Matters," a regular colu...

  • The first chapter, "Issues in Family Business: An International Perspective" by [Manfusa Shams] and Bjornberg, has too much background on defining family business (about 15 pages) given that this book is part of a management series and intended for researchers and practitioners in business. The psychological perspective on family is less than two pages and neither directly linked to family business nor international business. Chapter 2, "Teamworking in Organizations: Implications for Workplace Safety," compares research on safety in organisations between three types of groups: (a) health and safety committees, (b) autonomous work teams, and (c) cockpit crews. "Identity and Identification Processes in Mergers and Joint Ventures" is the title bf Chapter 3. This is a very interesting artic...

  • At the end of the 20th century, Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools has appeared. Especially after our country's accession to WTO, the development of Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools has remarkably developed with a larger size appearance over time. As a result, the educational levels constantly improve and educational models increasingly diversify. However, with the profound development of Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools, various new questions emerge. The existing researches have broad discussed and proposed some constructive strategies and suggestions. Thus, those researches concentrate on the existing problems in Chinese-foreign cooperation in running schools with specific regional observation and lack of general analysis.

  • Canadian policy makers have repeatedly emphasized improving relations with Brazil as a strategic objective in the Americas. Given past failures to cooperate, this objective may be difficult to realize. We argue that one of the reasons for this unrealized relationship between Canada and Brazil within hemispheric institutions is different national approaches to the role and purpose of multilateralism. This argument is advanced through an analysis of national interpretations of each country's engagement with multilateralism, drawing on the local literatures. The paper concludes with a discussion of the prospects and limits of future multilateral cooperation between the two countries, drawing on examples from the Inter-American System.
