This summer, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site of the SIEF's future home, an office complex located on Muskeg Lake First Nation's urban reserve in Saskatoon. While the new complex is expected to be completed by the end of this year, the grand opening won't happen until late spring or early summer when the foundation plans to officially commemorate its 20th anniversary. "We've been planning this for the last five years or so and we really wanted to have an economic development complex on First Nations land within the city of Saskatoon," said Dana Soonias, business development manager at SIEF.

[Sherman Kreiner] argued in court submissions that [Jon Singleton] erred by limiting his investigation to a period ending Sept. 30, 2004. Following that date, Kreiner alleged, a number of critical events occurred which led to a decision in early December to cease trading. Kreiner stated these events are key to understanding why the fund collapsed.
In his court submission, Kreiner alleged [John Pelton] and [Laurie Goldberg] "had specific responsibility for valuation of the fund" and also were the officers who recommended a write-down in the portfolio's value in September 2004. Despite this, Kreiner claimed "the Auditor General makes no reference to the role played by Mr. Goldberg and Mr. Pelton in the valuation of the Fund.
