The relations between the United States and Pakistan (US-Pakistan relations) have a very tumultuous history, which is spread over nearly six decades. Owing to the diverse strategic and, sometimes, incompatible strategic interests, these relations have seen various engagements and estrangements. This paper aims at exploring the role played by the geostrategic and geopolitical factors in bringing US closer to Pakistan. It takes into account the cost and benefits of these relations for Pakistan and the United States. It also highlights the present warmth in relations between the United States and Pakistan in the perspective of geo-strategic and geopolitical factors. It also discusses the future prospects of these relations.

China has experienced pressing energy shortages in recent years, and Beijing has intensified its efforts to secure China's energy supply through both increased domestic production and external expansion. In this paper, I first analyze China's global quest for energy by looking at the correlation between China's economic growth and its energy security concerns. I then examine the implications of China's "go-out" strategy through two sets of case studies. I argue that China's global search for energy is primarily driven by its rapid economic growth, out of insecurity rather than a master plan to dominate the world, and that China's energy security issues have multiple implications beyond simple economic concerns. Finally, I recommend a forward-looking engagement policy to be adapted by Ca...

The purpose of a study is to examine a particular incarnation of taxation - the imperial stamp duty imposed by the British Parliament on the American colonies briefly from 1765 to 1766, the demise of which is referred to as the "Stamp Act crisis." The version of stamp duty imposed on the colonies bore strong resemblance to that in operation in Great Britain with some modifications to accommodate colonial conditions. By the middle of the 18th century, a stamp duty had become an accepted part of the tax landscape in Britain, and the administrative machinery by which it was collected was firmly established. In view of this, the vehement rejection of a similar impost by the colonists was not a response that was either anticipated or expected. The response by the colonists can, it is argued,...
