ö Dryer vents, usually close to ground level, may become entry points for pests. Clean the vent of accumulated lint, then use steel wool to plug the vent. (Place a "WARNING" reminder to remove the blockage before using the dryer.) "ö Gasoline stored in hot conditions will aggressively evaporate from cans and motor fuel tanks. When gasoline evaporates, it leaves a heavy varnish-like deposit on surfaces. Decant gas from tanks, run the motor until tanks are dry or give the fuel to someone else. "ö Many developer-built communities of single-family homes in Arizona have services provided by homeowner associations. If your home is in one of these communities, check to see if a "snowbird" service is available.
* Targus, maker of the world's best-selling notebook carrying cases and accessories, has launched the Eco-Smart line of notebook carrying cases, reducing the use of resources and the production of waste in the development and distribution of the line. From large corporations such as Shell, Intel and Targus, to smaller companies such as the more than 90 percent of small businesses that comprise the Canadian economy, businesses and consumers alike are changing the way they create and consume goods and services in an effort to make sure this generation leaves a better legacy than its predecessors. The three cases in Targus' Eco Smart Line accommodate notebooks with up to 15.4 inch screens, are manufactured without the use of heavy metals and toxic substances and use less packaging than usu...

The F 600 HyGenius is Mercedes-Benz's futuristic-looking fuel cell-powered vehicle. Using a 115-horsepower electric motor that produces 258 pound-feet of torque at Rev One, a lithium-ion battery pack, a four-kilogram hydrogen tank and a fuel cell capable of a cold start down to -25C, the F 600 boasts an equivalent fuel economy of just 2.6 litres per 100 kilometres and a range of 400 km. It's also quite silent in operation, which cuts the growing noise pollution problem and boasts good off-the-line performance and a comfortably functional interior. Factor in that it produces zero emissions and the F 600 At Circuito Monteblanco, a modern track just outside Seville, Mercedes had everything from the upcoming M 450 Two-Mode BlueHybrid (a technology it shares with BMW, Chrysler and General Mo...
The ecoVoyager's lithium-ion battery is only good for 65 km of range, but combined with a hydrogen fuel cell, the 200-kilowatt electric motor will carry the car almost 490 km. Even with the fuel cell in play, the vehicle's only emission is water. Similarly, the Jeep Renegade on battery only will only travel a similar 65 km. But crank up the 1.5-litre BLUETEC diesel engine, and the generator will continue to power the 200-kw motor 650 km and give the car a combined fuel mileage equivalent of 110 miles per gallon (2.2 litres per 100 km).
Several oil industry officials said although there are two other refineries in Canada that re-refine used motor oil, they convert it into a new oil product, not diesel fuel. The executive director of the industry-sponsored organization that runs the province's oil recovery program -- Manitoba Association for Resource Recovery Corp. (MARRC) -- said the HD-Petroleum refinery will be a welcome development for the province. This is solid. This is a good thing," Ron Benson said. "Any time we can have another approved, licensed place to send our used oil, it's a good thing. And it's in Manitoba, so that's more good news. Aside from the new jobs that are created, "just getting that (used motor oil) out of the area and turning it into usable diesel fuel is a plus," [Reeve Roger Vermette] said...
A high-speed electric motor, gearbox and power inverter (needed to change the fuel cell's DC output into the alternating current that drives the electric motors) sit up front. The fuel cell and hydrogen tanks sit beneath the floor and a 344-volt battery sits above the rear suspension, while each rear wheel is driven by an in-wheel electric motor. It is a neat package that frees up the interior of the vehicle. The beauty of by-wire technology is the personalization it builds into the system. For example, by calling OnStar or plugging in a PDA, everything from the damping rates and brake pedal feel to the steering's feedback and accelerator pedal sensitivity can be tailored to individual tastes. During the test, an engineer, sitting in the rear, demonstrated the capability by altering th...
Like the first Volt, this Volt E-Flex concept uses an electric motor to propel the vehicle, but a hydrogen-fuelled fuel cell provides much of the electrical power instead of an internal combustion engine. The fuel cell can recharge the battery pack or it can provide power directly to the electric motors to provide extended driving range. The vehicle can still be plugged in to charge the battery and it will operate on battery power only, but when combined with a fuel cell that also provides electricity, the battery pack needs to be only half the size on one used on a typical hybrid vehicle. Hydrogen may be the fuel for the future. [Larry Burns] sees hydrogen and electricity as interchangeable. Hydrogen can produce electricity and electricity can produce hydrogen. Current world hydrogen ...
A U.S. special interest group called the SUV Owners of America is lamenting the fact that cars simply can't tow like they used to. The group, founded in 1999 to advocate for much-maligned owners of sport utility vehicles, says that stricter fuel consumption and emissions control regulations have "gutted" car towing capacities, and that this "should be a wake-up call that major lifestyle consequences could loom large" as a result. Surely the apocalypse can't be far behind. This year, the Sorento gets the smooth and powerful 3.8-litre V-6 that's also used in the Hyundai Entourage minivan and Azera flagship sedan, as well as Kia's own Amanti range-topper. In the Sorento, it makes a much-improved 262 horsepower while boasting a city fuel consumption rating of 14L/100 km. The new motor puts ...
