It's our firm belief the more bilateral or multilateral agreements signed with other carriers, the more that will directly benefit the paying customer," [Lawrence Cannon] told a parliamentary committee in June.
"Canada is wildly uncompetitive worldwide," said Fred Gaspar of the Air Transport Association of Canada. "The government regards the commercial air industry as a source of short-term revenue.
"What we're aiming for is a direct flight from Amman to Montreal and probably later on to Toronto. It will help a lot of communities ... not only Jordanians, but probably Syrians, Lebanese and Egyptians," [Nabil Barto] said.

Canadian policy makers have repeatedly emphasized improving relations with Brazil as a strategic objective in the Americas. Given past failures to cooperate, this objective may be difficult to realize. We argue that one of the reasons for this unrealized relationship between Canada and Brazil within hemispheric institutions is different national approaches to the role and purpose of multilateralism. This argument is advanced through an analysis of national interpretations of each country's engagement with multilateralism, drawing on the local literatures. The paper concludes with a discussion of the prospects and limits of future multilateral cooperation between the two countries, drawing on examples from the Inter-American System.

While supported by 148 countries with two negative votes (United States and Israel) and four abstentions, even its supporters cast doubts on whether provisions of the convention will override commitments made by countries in the WTO.2 In pursuit of a cultural exception, Canada has created a complex network of commitments in multilateral and regional trade agreements as well as UNESCO. In examining the use of an exception in trade agreements, the treatment is careless in stating that there exists such an exception in the WTO, and fails to provide a more nuanced discussion of how the so-called exception works in the cases of the WTO, regional treaties, and the UNESCO Convention, and among these approaches when they overlap.

The United States, Europe and Israel are demanding Hamas recognize Israel, renounce violence and abide by existing agreements between Israel and Palestinians.
A multilateral conference doesn't make Hamas legitimate," [Mark Regev] said. "What makes Hamas legitimate is accepting the international benchmarks.
The Arab League statement said ministers sought a conference to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict "according to international resolutions and the principal of 'land for peace.' " Arabs want Hamas to endorse a 2002 Arab initiative that calls for peace ...
