Called BoKlok, the Ikea housing concept was created back in the mid-1990's, when Ikea and a Swedish construction firm called Skanska formed an alliance to produce high-quality homes at affordable prices. BoKlok essentially means 'live smart.' The intention is to provide space-saving, functional properties at prices almost anyone can afford. It's the same concept as Ikea's stores and products -- accessibility for everyone. Today, about 1,000 BoKlok homes are built each year throughout the northern European countries.
