While the murals of fallen Catholic hunger strikers lined the streets of the Falls Road as I made my way toward the city centre, there was no feeling of insecurity or danger anymore. The troops were no longer soldiers but tourists armed with digital cameras. The newspapers spoke of the latest se...

He said as an aside, that it was bitter that [Tommy Haas] was poisoned," said [Alexander Waske], who answered the man by saying that it was a virus. "Thereupon he said, 'No, they poisoned him.'
"I'm shocked that something like that appears possible," said Haas, ranked 13th in the world. "When I think of how bad I felt, I can imagine it. I've been feeling weak for weeks."

Signal HILL rises 350 metres above Table Bay, its flat summit stretching more than two kilometres before ascending abruptly at the Lion's Head. Table Mountain is a sharp turn to the east, and Devil's Peak completes the horseshoe that cradles Cape Town's city centre.
THAT goal. You know something big has happened when people who don't follow soccer can't talk about anything but. Or when Peter Mansbridge finds himself explaining a handball on The National. Thierry Henry's illegal pass that put William Gallas' name on the scoresheet, France into the World Cup and Ireland into a fit of rage dominated the news cycle for days and had hockey, football and basketball fans discussing nothing but soccer.
