After years of dismissing Facebook as both a waste of time and a potentially damaging tool to one's reputation and career, I have now reluctantly joined the cult. All my staff were able to come to work so this was just an excuse for 824 to have a paid day off. You want a snow day then fine, no problem, call in and say I am taking a snow day and lose a day's pay or take a vacation day. No biggie. And how can the union possibly defend that kind of behavior. What kind of example does that set for young people -- if you don't feel like showing up for work, just call in sick? Boy, that's irresponsible. What a poor work ethic. I don't think the problem is that these people didn't go to work on a day that the weather conditions were hazardous. I think the problem is that many of them chose to lie about their reasons, saying they're sick so they'd still get paid, rather than saying the weather was the reason and not getting paid for a day. Brandon city clerk Con Arvisais told Sun reporter Allison Dowd there's nothing in the legislation that disallows them from undertaking a public relations campaign prior to the writ being dropped.
