It might not sound like a lot until you realize that greenhouse emissions from all light-duty cars on the road in the province release about 1,477 mt of emissions. In other words, garbage in landfills releases the same volume of emissions as just over half of the cars on Manitoba roads. The conditions at landfills, however, just aren't conducive to the harmless breakdown of organic waste. Take oxygen, for example.
