I just find that there's a lot of guilt trips put on, trying to convince other people that they're living unsustainably. I'm trying to bring that to light and say that we don't have to feel negative about the way we live, but there are certain actions that we can take to live more sustainably," he says.
"This is great," he says. "However, those products break down very quickly. They only last about two to five years. On the other hand, if you bought something that was made of, for example, stainless steel, it's a very destructive material. It takes a lot of energy to produce, it robs materials from the Earth, but when it's all said and done, that piece made out of stainless steel is going to last for 200 years if the owner treats it well. That's more sustainable over its life cycle th...

Today, packaging wrap made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a product derived from petrochemicals and chlorine, is still in widespread use despite reports about the breakdown of chlorinated byproducts in food that surfaced several years ago. Those worries sprung from a Consumer Reports investigation that found that high-fat foods like cheese that were wrapped in PVC plastic wrap contained high levels of harmful phthalates -- softeners used in PVC plastic. Liberation Nuts, based in Albuquerque, N.M., says that it is "helping people trade their way out of poverty and change an unfair trading system, one nut at a time!" This company works with smallholder producer co-operatives in Asia, Africa and Latin America that represent more than 22,000 shareholder growers in their operation. The challenges now, says the ACA, are to organize the sector to maximize earnings, to get involved in the value added side of the business, rather than sending raw product to other countries (Brazil, India) for processing and packaging, to develop appropriate technology to increase production and processing, and to better promote cashews as a health food.

Throughout the course of their children's hospitalization and continuing today, we have reached out to the Quaids to discuss any concerns or questions they have," [Richard Elbaum] said.
The Quaids sued the makers of heparin last month, saying Baxter Healthcare Corp., based in Deerfield, Ill., was negligent in packaging different doses of the product in similar vials with blue backgrounds. Three patients, including the twins, received vials containing 10,000 units per millilitre of heparin instead of vials with a concentration of 10 units per millilitre.

Even if Winpak doesn't add any new plants this year, [Bruce Berry] said there are plenty of growth opportunities within its existing operations and product lines, which include packaging machines, modified atmosphere packaging, specialty films, rigid containers and plastic lids.
It is not Winpak's practice to make future predictions. However, I can state that in my 30-year history with the company, never before have we had so many exciting new products and lucrative sales opportunities.
"Winpak may not be recession proof, but it is the next best thing to it," Berry said.
