AS the summer construction season draws to a close, I'd like Winnipeg drivers to consider meditating upon the following mantra the next time they're stuck in their cars for some interminably long period: "Everything is interconnected.
Happily, the completion of the Panama Canal killed the railways and the onset of the Depression ensured Winnipeg wouldn't start building more streets in any dramatic way until the 1950s and '60s, when postwar optimism encouraged expansion.
So what's the solution? If I was a jerk, I'd simply say don't live in the 'burbs if you don't want deal with long drives every morning.
