Yet as with anything else concerning the NHL, there was some amount of angst over how many Winnipeggers would pay to see the farm team of the Minnesota Wild battle the farm team of the Vancouver Canucks. Heaven forbid fewer than 10,000 would pay the ransom or surely the tall foreheads in NHL headquarters, from their dark chambers in New York, would declare it only more proof that the yokels from Manitoba never deserved a franchise in the first place. Some Jets loyalists would even use the games as a platform to evoke support for a return of the NHL. Well, no more. MARTIN Unrau is a director of the Manitoba Cattle Producers Association. He believes, as does Agriculture Minister Rosann Wowchuk, that Manitoba should increase its cattle slaughter capacity for a variety of reasons, not least of which is to avoid as much as possible the disaster that occurred when the BSE crisis closed the U.S. border to live Canadian cattle three years ago. Manitoba was particularly hard hit because of its lack of slaughter capacity. It is difficult to imagine ways in which Ms. Wowchuk could have made a bigger political hash of this issue than she has. The dying days of February brought us the launch of an official Vote Yes for Brandon committee, the delivery of anti-casino pamphlets to city households by an anonymous group of people opposed to the idea and a series of articles in the Brandon Sun detailing the experiences of four small cities in Saskatchewan after they built their casinos. If you missed it, the stories are still available on our website and contain lots of information on the casinos' customer traffic, profit margins, economic spinoffs, effects on problem gambling, and the feelings that area residents hold - both good and bad - towards their local gaming centres.

Transit's most recent offer would see the plan cost students $263. In 2004, the union rejected an offer from Transit that would see a U-Pass cost $222.
