It's very dangerous for the First Nations... It means we go slowly, but surely, with the genocide of the First Nations and it's really urgent we are doing something to give the chance for the First People of Canada to have the right to receive the education on the language, culture and in their community," said [Marc Lemay]. "It's a question of money, but, first, it's an investment of money. It's not an expense. It's not a tax. It's an investment to the First Nations, and we are obliged to do that. If we are not doing that, then we are not respecting the First People of this country... That's it. That's all," Lemay explained. "We discuss a lot of things and now it's time to discuss the real thing, and the real thing is what is happening to the kids from Grade 5 to Grade 12. It's on the...
Students' retention and their academic performance are influenced by the service quality provided by higher education institutions (Sander, Stevenson, King and Coates, 2000). As such, it is vital to identify the determinants of the overall students' perceived service quality. The aim of this research is to evaluate and validate the determinants of the overall students' perceived service quality in a private higher education institution in Malaysia, based on the combination of both the 'inside-out' and 'outside-in' approaches as well as the resource input model of education quality. A total of 458 undergraduate business students from a private university in Malaysia participated in this research. The findings revealed that contact personnel, access to facilities, cost of courses offered,...
Brandon University's faculty of education has received federal and private funding of more than half a million dollars to launch a three-year principal training program for Manitoba native teachers.
The main aim of this study is to identify the relationship between three variables (i.e. trust, access to information and access to opportunity to learn and develop) and perceived organizational support. This study also aims to identify the most effective predictor of perceived organizational support. The respondents comprise 312 lecturers from 25 private institutions of higher education in three Malaysian states (Kedah, Penang and Kelantan). Correlation analyses show high positive relationship between antecedents (trust; access to information; and access to opportunity to learn and develop) and perceived organizational support. Regression analysis indicates that all three antecedents under study are significant predictors of perceived organizational support. Trust is identified as the ...
Choosing a course depends to a great extent on what you hope to learn or experience at a wine tasting. Manitoba's Liquor Marts and some of Winnipeg's private wine stores have wine tastings/education sessions posted on their websites. Bad news for those of us who enjoyed last year's California Wine Fair: the 2010 tour has been announced and -- once again -- Winnipeg has been left off the list. Last year's fair marked the first time California Wines had brought the tasting to Winnipeg in a few years, and while attendance seemed good, it seems we're on the outs again. Originating from the heel of Italy's boot, this Negroamaro (that's the grape) offers cherry, cinnamon, plum and light vanilla notes. Tart cherry, blackberry and cranberry flavours come on strong on the palate of this medium-b...
With an ever-increasing need to develop and efficiently manage Canadian government infrastructure projects, public-private partnerships (P3s) have emerged as one of the main delivery mechanisms for public infrastructure projects, especially in the health care and education sectors. The definition of P3s embraced by The Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships is: "A cooperative venture between the public and private sectors, built on the expertise of each partner that best meets clearly defined public needs through the appropriate allocation of resources, risks and rewards. Because public-private projects utilize many different models - among them design-build, design-build-finance-operate and build-ownoperate - the complexity in managing such projects and the related capital i...
It sure can be fun to try. Wine education isn't the snooty, pretentious borefest it was in decades past. Wine's immense popularity has lead to a burgeoning demand for wine and wine-related courses and seminars from the general public, so it needs to be engaging, informative and fun. As a result, there is a variety of styles of wine education sessions that cater to every level of wine drinker. Food and wine pairing courses typically skip the technical side of wine education, leaning instead toward educating the attendee on creating perfect pairings. Whether it be "wine and food of Italy" or "wine and barbecue," these courses provide those who take them with a better understanding of how flavour profiles of wines pair with a variety of spices, sauces, meats and ethnic cuisine. Some restau...
