It's been a long and improbable journey to this point for the Saskatchewan Party. Part of the reason Saskatchewan's NDP has held power for the past 16 years is because its opponents have been so saddled with baggage. Formed from the ashes of the province's former Progressive Conservative governments, the NDP first defined the Saskatchewan Party as the same gang of crooks that nearly bankrupted the province under Grant Devine; then as a bunch of right-wing yahoos intent on turning Saskatchewan into a smaller, meaner version of Alberta.
Not surprisingly, the Saskatchewan NDP has raised the alarm once again, launching a negative ad campaign suggesting [Brad Wall] and his party are wolves in sheep's clothing. If such a strategy seems familiar, it is -- it's exactly what Doer and Manitoba's ...

This article focuses on rural girls' aspirations of becoming migrants in a setting where girls are subjected to social constraints curtailing their movements in the midst of an otherwise mobile society, where mothers and grandmothers frequently recall their experiences in Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, and boys set off on their first migration in their mid- or late teens. However, the high level of mobility affects both intergenerational relations and the ways in which girls can justify their wish to migrate. Based on multi-sited ethnographic research between 2002 and 2008 in Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire, the article explores the ways in which images of success and material wealth of (trans)national migrants feed into adolescent girls' imaginations of migration and its outcome. Furthermore,...

Teenage girls represent the most highly sought after market segment in the U.S. because of their keen interest in shopping and their significant spending power. Teenage girls spend more time than teenage boys in shopping environments and outspend boys in every category except videogames. So, teenage girls clearly love to shop--but do they perceive themselves as good shoppers or is this a group who feels out of control when it comes to spending wisely and making considered decisions regarding purchases? If they lack the expertise and self-control to perform shopping tasks successfully, then there are numerous financial and psychological implications, including accumulating debt and exhibiting compulsive shopping behaviors that continue into adulthood.
