Gene Soldat's behaviour is reminiscent of a child caught with his "hand in the cookie jar" once too often. Now that he is older, his "I promise to change, Mommy and Daddy" has fallen on deaf ears. Soldat has been "grounded" for five years. Sentences need to be stiff enough for the other young offenders to sit up and take note. Bumping a kid up to adult court is a good start, but as a society, now is the time to really stand up and make noise until young offenders are reigned in for good. Only then can we "start over" and teach these kids and some values so that they don't become deadbeat parents who just continue the cycle that we're seeing today.
