The group's plans to use the Canadian Pacific Railway station, the city's No.1 Fire hall, and, most recently, the former Convergys building have not come to fruition, leaving the non-profit group out of options and searching for a clearer idea of what the city is willing to contribute financially to the project and when.

I was in front of Abu Ismail, who had taken such a position that no one could see him," [Ajmal Kasab] told the court. "We both fired, Abu Ismail and I. We fired on the public," he said.
Kasab said he and Abu Ismail went to the Chatrapati Shivaji railway station in a taxi and left a bomb in the vehicle. "I went to the restroom and attached a battery to a bomb and put it in a bag. Abu followed me to restroom and I asked him what I should do with the bomb.
Kasab was treated for wounds and has since been held in solitary confinement in Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail where the trial is being conducted. The siege of Mumbai, India's financial and entertainment capital, ended Nov. 29 with troops storming the Taj Mahal Hotel where the gunmen were holding hostages. All attackers except Kasab were ki...

On behalf of The Fort Garry Horse Regimental Association, I would like to express concern over the recent decision at city hall to permit the construction of a new apartment complex at the site of the Upper Fort Garry Gate. Not only is this the only remaining site of the birthplace of Winnipeg, but is the symbol of our storied regiment, The Fort Garry Horse, Winnipeg's only cavalry unit. This "on-the-fly" quality is sometimes to the reader's advantage as we follow l'[Arche] residents on their first holiday trips, or stand with Vanier among the hundreds of homeless in a Kolkata railway station (he vows to return twice a day until he can look everyone in the face), or share his thoughts about disability when he is hospitalized for months by a mysterious fever. (He was given DeGaulle's bed because it was the only one that fit.)
We follow Vanier to India, Haiti and Honduras, where l'Arche foyers began in the 1970s, and on later visits to Eastern Europe as the walls come down, and to the Israeli West Bank during the first Intifada.
Vanier did not come to his life's work early. By 1964, when l'Arche began, he had been searching for his vocation since 1950, when he left his f...
